Good-bye to On the Spot

PrayerMy journey on the internet based reality show called On the Spot has come to an end (a while ago). I was just scrolling down the posts on my site and editing the last of my personal journals and I’m filled with warm feelings.

If you watch the final episodes, it doesn’t always look like I was having the time of my life. There were moments where it actually seems like I might be dying (I think I almost did), but if you watch my journals there’s a whole lot of soul in them (from all the contestants). These are relationships that I would have gone through much worse to build. I’m grateful to cambio for facilitating that. I’m looking forward to seeing what this On the Spot band comes up with and pray that our paths cross soon. I’m also pulling for Jazmin and hope her experience is very positive and is everything she could want.

Now what? Where has this competition and show left me? It might look like I’ve gone back to where I began, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. With this experience and rubbing shoulders with some big wigs in the music industry, I’ve been given momentum that is just going to continue like some kind of creative perpetual motion.

I’ve already begun working up more material with my rhythm section (Frank Ditillio and Steve Convery). Going forward you’re going to see Joel van Vliet performing live and you’re going to want to come see those shows. I’m going to also be working on a new album for later this year.

The support that I was shown during my journey with On the Spot was breath-taking. And now that the show is over, I need that all the same (and more). I’m going to continue to make journals about my music (maybe even some of you will appear in them at a show or something) and give sneak peaks into the creative process.

My Joel is On the Spot page will be coming down in a while so I hope everyone will go “like” this page: JOEL VAN VLIET. Please do because it’s a really easy way to stay up to date with me and I want to share what’s going on with you. I’ll be re-posting this post a bunch of times on my OTS page, so just go “like” the other page and unlike this one.

Another fun way to stay up to date with me is Twitter: Joel van Vliet on Twitter!! I tweet all sorts of strange stuff, whatever is bouncing around my head at the time and also links to my blogs and videos.

FREE STUFF? Did someone say FREE STUFF? I will be finding creative ways to give stuff to you and most of the time you’ll get it through my facebook page. I’ve also been designing some cool stickers that will only be at my shows!

Finally, thank you for all the communication and support. All the “likes”, the comments, the sharing of my stuff, all that helped build my confidence in this competition and can only help me take over the world after it. I’m going to miss my dear friends from OTS, but I’m so excited to deliver some independent, original music that’s going to explode!

Much love,

Joel van Vliet
